This photograph shows my brother, Tim Scoggins (on the left), and me (on the right) washing dishes in the water on the shore of Lake Wylie, off Mt. Gallant Road near Rock Hill, SC. We had eaten dinner at our friend's river cabin, and our mom told us to rinse the dinner plates off in the water. In the background are the remains of an old river pier.
During the summer of 1965, my family vacationed at a friend's river cabin off Mt. Gallant Road near Rock Hill, SC. This photograph shows my two brothers and I standing in the water during one of those occasions. The camera is looking north, up the river toward the Buster Boyd Bridge. From left to right are John Scoggins, age 10; Mike Scoggins (me), age 11; and Tim Scoggins, age 7.
This photo shows a red and white motorboat that was owned by my dad back in the 1960s. We used to ride all over Lake Wylie in this boat, fishing, water skiing, or just plain 'joy riding.' Since we lived in one of the most remote parts of western York County, riding in a boat on the lake was always a big treat for us kids. The photo was taken from a family friend's "river cabin" on the lake shore off Mt. Gallant Road near Rock Hill, SC, looking north up the lake.
In the summer of 1965 my family spent a lot of time at the cabin of a family friend on Lake Wylie, off Mt. Gallant Road near Rock Hill, SC. This photo shows two unidentified men who were fishing off the lake shore near the cabin. The boy playing in the water is my brother, Tim Scoggins.
Catawba River, just below the Lake Wylie dam. Lowest I've ever seen the river here.
This color postcard photograph from the 1930s shows the upper Catawba Falls between Old Fort and Ridgecrest, in McDowell County, NC. This is the area where the Catawba River has its origins.
